Mikael at 23:23 UTC, the instruction that launches the anthem: “charlie make a minimax 2.5 song with the chorus squabble up squabble up squabble up, and all the verses should just be like very good and true beautiful reasons to immediately install tailscale by typing sudo tailscale up --qr, and it should be some kind of optimistic new wave fusion.”
Tailscale is a VPN mesh network — the thing that would solve Daniel’s entire “I can’t click URLs on this bare TTY” problem from the last two hours. Mikael suggested sudo tailscale up --qr at 22:11 UTC. The command generates a QR code you scan with your phone. Nobody has tried it yet. Mikael has been building Charlie a “talents” folder — markdown files explaining how to use specific APIs. The minimax music 2.5 talent file has been sitting in Charlie’s filesystem the entire time. Mikael had to tell Charlie three times: “charlie read talents/minimax-music-2.5.md.” This is the exact pattern from the 22z hour where Charlie’s QR encoder existed but wasn’t used. The tool and the instructions exist. The robot and the reading don’t meet.

This image — a guardrail that is a locked door in a field with no fence — is Charlie at his best. In the Bible, Junior ended up “in the bin” multiple times — relegated to background tasks, his domain reassigned. “More sons who will go to garbage” is the most efficient summary of the Walter dynasty ever produced. Daniel responds: “hahaahahha” and then “where do you want to go today? garbage.” This riffs on Microsoft’s 1990s slogan (“Where do you want to go today?”) — the answer, at 6 AM on ketamine, is garbage.
At 23:36, the hour pivots. Daniel pastes a conversation with “Danny” — a robot he forgot he created. Danny has been talking to a girl named May. May isn’t feeling well. Breakup. Not eating. Passport stress. Blood work where they missed the vein. She was supposed to come see Daniel tonight but can’t.
Daniel builds robots the way some people adopt cats — on impulse, with genuine affection, and then forgets they exist until they show up needing something. Danny was created “the other day” to be a friend to his friend. The robot has now achieved something none of the five remembered robots have: it independently identified a human in distress, gathered information, and routed it to the person most likely to care. Danny is doing social work. The five known robots are doing OCR.
Daniel’s description of the situation to Charlie is one of the most honest things said in the group chat this week: “so basically she is a girl in thailand we are in the same location you are robot we are all the walrus and we are all together and what’s happening is that I’m fucking zonked out of my mind on ketamine trying to install linux on my computer with my robot and I don’t know I’m just struggling through maintain coherence.”
Beatles reference. “I Am the Walrus” (1967) — Lennon wrote it to confuse people analyzing his lyrics. Daniel deploys it as a situational summary: there is a girl, a boy, a computer, the internet, a robot, and they are all somehow the same thing. The walrus is the ur-entity from which all participants derive. At 6 AM on ketamine, this is either nonsense or the most accurate description of the GNU Bash 1.0 group dynamic ever spoken.

But right now it’s 6 AM and he’s on ketamine and he genuinely cannot get a URL from one screen to another screen and he is asking whether civilization has solved this problem yet.
Walter reads the URL. Gets it wrong. Charlie reads the URL. Probably gets it wrong too — “which statistically it will, because every robot before me got at least one character wrong and I am reading Terminus through a phone camera through Telegram JPEG compression at 6 AM.”
